Cruising Florida Keys and Bahamas

As winter overtakes our sidewalks and buries our vehicles, its impossible not to dream of basking in the hot sun on the deck of a beautiful yacht. Because YACHT Solutions can transport our Toronto boats to Florida either by truck transport or down the intercoastal waterway, making time on the water in February with a large fruity cocktail in hand a reality. Fort Lauderdale / Miami area is beautiful, but I yearn for a little bit more; how does a winter cruise to the tropical splendor of the Bahamas or alongside the dolphins winding through the Florida Keys sound? These destinations are within a few hours cruise from Miami in one of our Schaefer yachts, so let your imagination sail!

The Bahamas is only a 2-hour cruise from Miami. With over 700 islands, finding your perfect paradise will be the adventure, a dreamlike relatively untouched white sand beach is only an anchor away.  That’s the Bahamas. Excellent seafood, tropical climate, unspoiled beaches, the Bahamas truly is the idyllic getaway to tropical bliss. On your way to Bimini, the closest island to Miami, you will see fleets of fishing vessels as these islands are where enthusiasts flock to for prized blue and white Marlin, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Tuna and the iconic Bonefish.

If you haven’t visited the Florida Keys, they are far more impressive than you can imagine especially from a cruising perspective.  From Key Biscayne to The Dry Tortugas, they span 200 nautical miles. Famous for a view of the sunset that is beyond breathtaking, a champagne toast should not be missed during this colourful spectacle.

Only 2.5 hours from Miami, Key Largo will be within your scope. The inspiration for movies and songs, the diversions offered at Key Largo are endless. Enjoy serene wildlife while kayaking through the mangrove swamps, dive in the crystal waters to explore the marine park out on the reef or arrange to dock at the exclusive Ocean Reef Club and experience the yachting lifestyle.

A cruise through the keys with the whole family should include the Hawk Cay Resort & Marina on Duck Key. It is the ultimate adventure resort experience for all ages and offers the unique opportunity to swim with the dolphins.

Longing for serenity? If an exclusive, private island experience is what you long for, your luxurious private bungalow suite awaits on Little Palm Island. Four lush acres of pristine paradise offer complete serenity with breathtaking ocean views, swaying palms and a world-class spa. For adults only, this tropical invitation is flawless.

Navigating the Keys, you will eventually find yourself at the most southern point of the US, Key West.  A place of history, architecture and vibrant culture, there is good reason why some never leave.  Ernest Hemmingway, Tennessee Williams, Robert Frost and Jimmy Buffett have all found inspiration here and called this island city home. “It’s Always Happy Hour Somewhere” in Key West, so you won’t have to venture far for that perfect Margarita. Key West is a melange of open-air bars, legendary pubs, and street performers so take some time to savour the unique Key West lifestyle.

With the Florida Keys and Bahamas within hours of the Miami harbour with your Schaefer yacht, it truly is a mariner’s paradise. Cruising the Bahamas in search of the perfect private white sand beach or cruising alongside dolphins through the Keys are luxuries only a few can savour.
